Welcome To Rural Development Project (RDP)

Rural Development Project (RDP) is a nonprofit and non-governmental organisation working for the well-being of poor and disadvantaged segments of the society. It was established in 1992 and is registered under society's act of 1860. The establishment of the organisation is deeply rooted into the systemic problems of system including poverty, human rights, climate change, livelihoods and peace and security. Since its establishment the organisation has played key role in minimizing the sufferings of people regardless of gender, cost, creed or religious preferences. While serving the poor and grassroots communities, RDP started its activities in 1992 on mutual help basis from a small village named Hattar in District Haripur Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa. By that time RDP was the only organisation that voiced the concerns of labor community working in Hattar Industrial Estate (HIE) and advocated for their labor rights.

With the passage of time RDP remained actively involved in bringing about change in the status quo environment of political exploitation, gender-discrimination and violation of human rights both at national and international levels. After the earthquake of 2005 in northern areas, military operation of 2009 in Swat Malakand and devastating floods in 2010, RDP was one among the few organisations which supported the affected communities through relief, early recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation of their livelihoods.Keeping in view the miserable conditions of the victims of both manmade and natural disasters, RDP expanded its operations in more disaster prone and conflict affected areas including northern areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Mansehra, Buner , Swat, Nowshehra, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadah, Peshawar and Malakand Division. Currently RDP is a national level humanitarian organization with proven track record of serving the masses on humanitarian grounds. RDP has responded to the 2011 floods in Sindh Province. RDP is operating in Distirct Jamshoro, Dadu and OmerKot of Sindh Province.

Grounded into the overall problems of the society the vision of the organisation is "A just and democratic society based on the principles of equality, fairness, justice and interdependence." To fulfill and contribute into the vision the mission of the organisation is "To create a democratic and peaceful society based on the principles of equality, transparency and justice through social mobilization, knowledge management and rights based advocacy".The organisation has completed its first five years strategic plan (2005-2009) and has formulated a new plan (2010-2014).
